Jin Shin Jyutsu

A form of light acupressure – The Art of Knowing yourself

Jin Shin Jyutsu (JSJ) is a meridian therapy originating from Japan that restores, balances and maintains physical and emotional health.

Imagine, sitting by a river and watching the water flowing freely along. Now imagine an obstruction in the river, maybe a fallen tree or a rock – the water may become trapped and forms a pool, or it may find another pathway that is less effective in reaching the sea. It is nonetheless disturbed.

So it is with us, as the stresses and strains of life accumulate within us, our life force and creative freedom becomes blocked in the pathways it follows in our body (the meridians) and we may feel unwell.

Jin Shin Jyutsu was given to the Western World by Master Jiro Muria in the 1900s - its origins can be found in the ancient writings of the Imperial Palace. It was brought to America by Mary Burmeister who likens the practitioner’s hands to a set of “jumper cables” as they restart or boost the energy flows.

So by gently placing our hands on specific parts of the body we invite the pathways to clear and we can return into the vibrant flow of life. This is often experienced as heat in the areas where the hands are placed, or momentary tingling in the hands and feet or more often as waves of relaxation flooding through the body.

Treatment is given as the client rests, either lying or sitting, fully clothed with sessions usually lasting an hour. The frequency and number of sessions depends upon your situation and may be daily, weekly or fortnightly.

Jin Shin Jyutsu is all about the art of living and “knowing yourself through your hands” so, it is not unusual for clients to choose to maintain their wellbeing with regular monthly visits and self-help sessions.
