Emotional Freedom Techniques - EFT A relatively new talking therapy that involves using our fingers to gently tap on our face and hands whist we talk through issues that are causing us problems. These may be physical or emotional issues, or limiting behaviours, addictions and fears. EFT can produce rapid permanent transformations and is a resource we can use ourselves both within a therapy session or ongoing at home, at work or in a stressful situation such as presenting/public speaking, competing/exams/dental appointments or flying in airplanes.

Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT) is an innovative therapeutic approach that helps people resolve emotional and physical issues. Its roots are in counselling, hypnotherapy, NLP and acupressure, all of which are creatively blended to form a fast, effective therapy. Often people can overcome limitations with a few EFT sessions

“Tapping” is a non-invasive way to access the meridian pathways long associated with Eastern medicine, namely acupuncture, shiatsu and acupressure. Dr Roger Callahan, first noted the relationship between tapping and meridians, when he was helping a client with her fear of water and his pioneering work known as Thought Field Therapy (TFT) was evolved by Gary Craig into the Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT).

The applications of EFT are wide ranging and include releasing habits (for example - smoking, cravings and behaviours), improving self-perception and esteem (for example - confidence, self belief, anticipation of performance or an event, weight management and relationships), overcoming anxieties, fears and phobias (for example -fear of flying, attending an interview or making a lifestyle change) to physiological changes (for example – constipation, hypertension, hormonal imbalances and pain). EFT receives widespread positive media coverage and is increasing in popularity.

What to expect during EFT therepeutic sessions

We begin by discussing your challenge and your feelings about it. I will demonstrate the tapping protocol / method to you and we will have a practice "tap" on an unrelated matter, just so that you can feel confident in following the tapping procedure as we work together - most of the time you will be tapping on yourself copying the patterns I reflect to you and you will be saying words out loud (where possible) at the same time. It is really easy to do and my intention is for you to enjoy the simplicity of tapping as things become peaceful - even although you issue may be distressing to you when we begin.

As we sensitively focus and begin to use tapping to transform and reduce the intensity of the feelings you have we will use the most appropriate emotional freedom technique. This may be fundamentally tapping to reduce the intensity of feeling from high to low, or we may use more advanced procedures to go behind the scenes of your story to help you let go of age old issues that you have been holding onto or we use processes that have origins in NLP to help you change your attitudes and behaviours. Remember we cannot change the past, it has happened and that is true but we can choose to release the hold past events have that may be limiting us today.

During our first, hour long, session we will be able to make a plan of support and this will vary for each person coming to my practice and their circumstances. EFT lends itself to telephone, online or practice based sessions so it is good for people living throughout the UK.
